Autonomous Status

Under autonomy the College is free to frame its own courses of studies and to adopt innovative methods of teaching and evaluation. Students who have successfully completed the course are conferred degrees by the University of Madras.

The College has completed 60 years of service in the field of women's higher education. In keeping with its tradition of promoting innovation and growth, the College introduced the credit based system of education from the academic year 1997-98 with the following objectives:

  • To provide a broad based education
  • To provide students with greater flexibility in the choice of courses
  • To enable students to choose courses at basic / advanced levels
  • To enable highly motivated students to go beyond minimum requirements and earn extra credits

To facilitate the smooth functioning of the Academic Programme, the OFFICE OF THE ACADEMIC DEAN consisting of a team of two faculty members implements the decisions of the College.
