Stella Maris College

Evaluation of students is based on both Continuous Assessment and End Semester Examinations. Equal weightage (50% each) is given to Continuous Assessment (C.A.) and End Semester Examination (E.S). A student will be permitted to take the End Semester Examination provided she has a minimum attendance of 75% per course and has completed the C.A. requirements of tests / assignments / seminars / project work etc. The End Semester Examination will be in the form of a comprehensive written/practical examination for each course at the end of the semester.

Every student should register for the examination paying the prescribed fees on the dates indicated in the handbook.

The minimum for a pass in a Bachelor's Degree course and a Master's Degree course are as follows :

There is no minimum mark for Continuous Assessment.

Classification of Successful Candidates (U.G.)

Classes will be awarded separately in the following:

Part I - Foundation Courses- Language (Tamil / Hindi / Sanskrit / French)

Part II - Foundation Course - English

Part III - (a) Major & Application Oriented Subject (b) Allied

Part IV - (a) Common Core (b) General Electives

Classification will be based on weighted average only.

Credit Weighted Average (CWA) = (Sum of  Marks x Credits)/Total Credits

The class obtained by a student will be indicated in the Cumulative Marks Statement issued to her on successful completion of the course.

Appeal and Grievance Committee

In order to afford students the opportunity to present any grievance regarding Continuous Assessment and End Semester Examinations, the College has set up an Appeal and Grievance Committee with the Principal as the Chairperson.

Supplementary Examinations

For students who fail to secure the minimum for a pass in the End Semester Examination, supplementary examinations will be conducted along with the regular exams. Papers of the odd semester will be offered at the end of each odd semester and papers of the even and odd semesters will be offered at the end of each even semester.

Every student should register for the examination paying the prescribed fees, on the dates indicated in the handbook.

Improvement of Continuous Assessment

Applicable for Core Courses of Semester I only.

Students who have secured the required minimum marks in the End Semester Examination but fail to secure the aggregate minimum (CA and ES) are eligible to appear for Continuous Assessment Improvement Tests (CAIT).

Improvement of CA marks will be permitted only once. This facility will be offered at the end of semester 6.

Students should apply for the same within 15 days of the publication of results of semester 5 along with the prescribed fee.
