SCHOLAR-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAMME

The Scholar-In-Residence Programme is an annual academic exercise initiated by the department.Renowned academicians and experts both from India and abroad are invited for a series of lectures on specific themes drawn from the curriculum.

The Scholar-In-Residence Programme is designed to:

Provide an active interface between the students and renowned scholars in the field
Disseminate and debate the latest developments in international relations
To stimulate an analytical and critial thinking capabilities.

Arvind Kumar,  Associate Fellow, International Strategic Studies Programme National institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore. Mr.Arvind Kumar was the Scholar in Residence at the Department of International Studies,from24 -26 November,2004. Mr.Arvind Kumar conducted an extensive inhouse lecture series on “International Relations theory & Contemporary Warfare”.

The Lecture series was divided under three following headings

International Theories on Deterrence
India’s Nuclear Doctrine & regional Security Strategy
Nature & Significance of Contemporary Warfare



Dr.Kripa Sridharan,  Senior Lecturer, Department of Political Science, National University Singapore, Singapore Dr.Kripa Sridharan was the first International Scholar in Residence at the department of International Studies from 13-17, December 2004. Dr.Kripa conducted inhouse lecture series on “ The International Political System”.

The lecture series was divided under the following headings

International Political System:Origins & Management
Intra-State & International Conflict Sources & Resolution Mechanisms
Foreign Policy & Decision Making:The Competing Levels & Models
Foreign Policy Instruments-Diplomacy,Economic Statecraft & Use of Force
Comparative regionalism South & South East Asia




Mr.Arabinda Acharya, Manager, Strategic Projects, International Center for Political Violence & Terrorism Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies, Singapore. Research Coordinator,Center for Peace and Development Studies, India Mr.Arabinda Acharya was the International scholar in residence at the Department of International Studies from 21-24 Septemeber 2007. Mr.Acharya conducted inhouse lecture series on “Global Terrorism & International Security”.

The lecture series was divided under the following heading

International Relations Theory & Regional Conflicts
Terrorism an Outlook
New Age of Terror
Terrorism & Security
Intelligence Analysis

The Scholar in Residence Programme concluded with a Panel discussion on 22 September 2005.The theme was “Global Terrorism:Modes,Intentions & Capabilites”.

India-US Strategic Convergence:The Chinese Response
India and the emergent Global Balance of Power
India, United States and the Indian Ocean

The Scholar in Residence Programme concluded with a Panel discussion on 6 September 2006.The theme was “Evolving Indo-US Relations”.
