THE DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

The department of Mathematics established in the year 1951, focuses on

·        Pure, applied and applicable mathematics

·        Effective teaching, learning and evaluation

·        Involvement in research activities

·        Catering to students of varied backgrounds.

The Post Graduate course was started in the year 1964. The department became a Research department in 2003 with the introduction of the M.Phil. Degree programme which came under the autonomous mode in 2005. The Department is DST-FIST sponsored by The Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi under FIST Program for the year 2006.

Mission of the Department

·    To develop in students logical thinking, analytical reasoning and problem solving skills

·    To equip the students with more technical and technological skills and scientific computing techniques based on Mathematical methods to meet the growing demand in the industrial, marketing, communication sectors etc.

·    To widen their horizon of knowledge with a focus on research

·    To equip them with enhanced employable skills

·    To offer at the post graduate level a wide array of mathematical approaches in a scientific computing environment to cater to the needs of teaching, research & industrial applications
