Short excursions for education or for observations of communities or organisation are called field trips/visits. One-day educational field studies are often made by classes as extracurricular exercises, e.g. to visit a factory, hotel, hospital or government organisation.
Participant observation is used in study trips and helps in promoting understanding and internalizing knowledge. Students are taught to conceptualize, design and administer research tools like survey, questionnaire, schedule etc.
Analyzing and reporting data gathered through different research tools is another important learning method in a field trip.
Planning, organizing, executing and evaluating in groups is another opportunity to learn and practice management techniques.
An opportunity to bridge theory learnt in the classroom with practice in the field is provided on such visits.
Development of interpersonal skills like reaching out to people, talking, listening, recording and reporting is another facet of field visits. |
