Memorial Programme

A memorial is an object which serves as a memory of something, usually a person (who has died) or an event.

A programe is defined as a ‘‘planned series of events‘‘.

Sr. Juliet. M. Irene was the First Indian Principal of Stella Maris College from 1968 to 1978 and started the B.A. PR Department in 1975.

The Nandi Sloka in the Ramayana states ‘‘ajano-sujano-bhavati‘‘ meaning those who are no more are in our midst. Sr. Juliet. Irene was very committed to bridging the gap between the have‘s and have not‘s, the literate and illiterate. So the village adoption programe in Somangalam and the compulsory social service programs were infused with a zeal which made the faculty and students reach out to communities.

To honour such a person like Sr. Juliet. M. Irene the Department of Public Relations instituted a memorial programe, which was made up of a series of events :

Release of the Social Awareness programe report of 2007-2008 conducted in the villages of Marakkanam to Tindivanam by the Class of 2007
Presentation of Rural Tourism projects by Dr. M. Rajaram, I.A.S., Commissioner of TTDC and launch of Rural Tourism Project in the villages of Marakkanam to Tindivanam
Presentation on Carpentry, Plumbing and Masonry to village men through CSR Project of L & T (ECC) Chennai by Mr. V.S. Ramana, Head CCD and launch of Rural Project
Presentation on food and other articles prepared by Rotarian Mr. Krishna Rao under the winners bakery projects
The Department of Public Relations Instituted Two Diamond Jubilee scholarships in the name of Sr. Juliet. M. Irene, f.m.m. Sixth Principal and initiator of B.A. PR Department and Dr. Sr. Annamma Philip. f.m.m Eighth Principal and initiator of M.A. PR Department.
The Department of Public Relations also commemmorated the retirement of Dr. Sr. Annamma Philip. f.m.m
15 villagers of Marakkanam to Tindivanam accompanied by Mr. Rajasekaran, facilitator, NGO Save the East Coast along with resource person Dr. V. Arivudai Nambi, Senior Scientist, MSSRF were present to take these program foward
