Activities 2006

• Talk by Mr. Karthik Kannan, Channel Manager Interactive Services, Suleka.com.
  Title: Power of Social Media via blogs on July 24,2006.
• Talk by Mr. Eric Miller, Doctoral candidate, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA. Title: Ethnographic Video Conferencing between Tamil tribal people in Tamil Nadu and Tamil people in USA, Aug 11, 2006.
• Panel discussion on "Multidimensional Understanding of Domestic Violence" Panel List:
  
  1. Ms. Sudha Ramalingam, (Adv).
  2. Ms. U. Vasuki, Activist, Secretary, All India Democratic Women's Association.
  3. Ms. Sarasvathi, Inspector of Police, All Women Police Station, T.Nagar, Chennai.
     This was followed by accounting of personal experiences by victims of Domestic Violence on Dec 5th, 2006.

Activities 2007-2008

The Department of Sociology has organized the following programmes in the academic year 2007 - 2008

• On 7th August 2007, a workshop on "Social Entrepreneurship: Role of NGO s" was conducted by Ms.Latha Suresh, Co-ordinator, Centre for Social Initiative and Management, Chennai. The highlight of the workshop was the personal experiences of Mr.Govindarajan a visaully impaired social entrepreneur and the founder of Nethrodaya.
• On 30th of January 2008, a talk on "Globalization and the Changing Social Contract between Science and Society" by Dr. V.V Krishna, Prof in Science Policy, JNU, New Delhi.
• On 15th February 2008, a talk on "Motivational Intervention in an Organization" by Mr.Maithreya, Human Resource Management Consultant, Chennai.
• On 6th March 2008, Sister Christine Endowment Lecture is on "Social Development and Social Policy:The Interconnections", given by Dr.T.K Oommen, Sociologist and recipient of  'Padma Bhushan'.
