PROJECTS  >> RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CELL  >> CRIST LAB

The Centre for Research in Science and Technology (CRIST) was inaugurated on November 4, 2010 with the objective of promoting scientific research especially in the fields of Biotechnology, Microbiology and Chemistry.
The equipment in the CRIST lab include the following:
  • a FT-IR Spectrometer
  • an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer
  • a Millipore Water Purifier
  • a Trinocular-Phase Contrast Microscope and
  • a CO2 Incubator
A training camp was conducted for about 30 students of I & II year Botany, Chemistry and Zoology in April 2010, at which many instruments and techniques were demonstrated.

The lab was also used to give the III year Chemistry students hands-on training in Clinical Bochemistry practicals.

On 11 July, Dr. K. Viswanathan (Senior Scientist, IGCAR, Kalpakkam) delivered the first of a series of on-going guest lectures intended to enable students to undertake research activities. He spoke on the topic 'Hydrogen Bonding - Its Applications in Chemistry and Biology'.

So far, based on the work done in the CRIST lab, 4 research articles have been published in International journals and 2 more are under review.

The lab is also used to conduct the Certificate Course in Medical Biotechnology and the Diploma Course in Medical Laboratory Technology for undergraduate students.
